Wig Construction: Hand-Tied vs. Machine-Made

Hand-Tied: Hand-tied wigs are individual hairs, hand-sewn to thin stocking cap. Though more expensive, hand-tied wigs look more natural, as if the hair is naturally growing right from your own scalp; they are more comfortable too.

Machine-Made: Weft (or machine-made) wigs are less expensive. The hair is sewn by machine into a vertical-lined cap. The hair is more difficult to part, hair lines can be seen if the wind blows, and the base is heavier due to the added fabric in the cap’s design.

Hair Type: Human vs. Synthetic Hair

Human Hair: Human hair looks more natural. It can be styled with heated styling tools, such as flat or curling irons. There are two types, Indian Asian blend and European. When buying human hair, make sure the hair denier (or thickness) matches your own.

Synthetic Hair: Synthetic wigs are less expensive. This is a better option for those who want shorter hair (above the shoulders) since the fibers of long synthetic wigs typically fray in 6-12 months. Do not use heated styling tools with synthetic wigs. if you are often around heat, such as cooking, we recommend heat-resistant synthetic wigs.

Cap Size: Measuring Your Head

For the best fit wig, it’s important to know how to measure your head for a wig. Place a tape measure around the circumference of your head, like the brim of a hat; make sure to measure behind the ears. You can come into the salon for proper measurement or ask one of our stylists to walk you through the steps over the phone with video sharing. Read more!

There are many options to securely attach a wig to your head. Our Easy On/Off caps are designed for those undergoing chemo; they allow your own natural hair to grow back underneath after treatment.

Wig Cap: A wig cap or net can be worn with or without hair to create a smooth surface before putting on your wig.

Wig Grip: Wig grips are similar to a headband. Apply band over your ears with the label inside on the left and fasten the velcro in the back. It should feel smooth on the frontside.

Wig Tape Tabs: For extra hold, sew in plastic tape tabs on the inside of the wig and attach double-sided tape. This will hold the wig to your scalp.
